GOP leaders concerned antisemitism bill could fail

House GOP leadership is calling members to check if they’ll support an antisemitism bill, according to two GOP members who have received calls, amid growing concerns the legislation could fail in a Wednesday floor vote. Republicans helped bring the bill up for debate this week. But some GOP lawmakers are complaining both about the legislation itself and how it was handled, with Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) saying in a brief interview that there was “a lot of frustration” that it didn’t go through the Judiciary Committee. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said that it “has a problem beyond violating” the First Amendment. Even if around a dozen Republicans vote against it, the bill could still pass. At least that many Democrats are expected to back it.
